The United States Mint issued the Gold US Half Eagle denomination from 1795 to 1929, with the last specimens removed from circulation in 1933. The longest-running coin design of the five that featured in this denomination was the Liberty Head design. Designed in 1838 by Christian Gobrecht, the Liberty Head effigy appeared on all denominations of the coin and was on the Gold Half Eagle from 1839 to 1907.
All of these Pre-33 Gold $5 Liberty Half Eagles are available with plastic slabs and a Mint State 65 certification. Coins in this condition still have an attractive mint luster, but do come with scattered, small contact marks and the possibility of one or two heavier marks. Patches of small hairlines and light scuff marks on the highest relief points are also possible. MS65 coins do not have any major detractions within the primary focal fields.
Silver.com will select your coin at random after your payment has cleared. We cannot guarantee a specific date mark in advance, nor can we guarantee you a label from either the PCGS or NGC. You will receive coins based on what is in stock once your payment clears. If you buy multiples, you could get coins with matching dates and labels.
On the obverse of Pre-33 Gold Liberty Half Eagles is a left-profile image of Lady Liberty. Known as the Liberty Head design, this visual shows Liberty with a coronet crown and a ring of 13 stars around her portrait.
The reverse side of the Pre-33 Gold $5 Half Eagle comes with a depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States. This design features a front-facing bald eagle, the US national shield, the arrows of war in one set of talons, and the olive branch of peace in the other. Coins with a date mark of 1866 or later have a banner above the eagle with the national motto.
