By 1900, the long-running Liberty Head design from the United States Mint was nearing the end of its run on the US Eagle denominations. Featured on the Quarter Eagle, Half Eagle, and Eagle as of 1838, and the Double Eagle as of 1850, the Liberty Head design was the longest-used design for the coins. In 1900, only the Philadelphia Mint and San Francisco Mint were issuing the largest denominations, the $20 Double Eagle. In 1900, the Gold $20 Double Eagle was struck by just two mints. The Philadelphia Mint was still issuing the coins with no mint mark, while the San Francisco Mint was issuing the coins with an S mint mark. Only two other mints ever issued the coins. The New Orleans Mint issued them until the Civil War, and despite reopening after Reconstruction, never issued them after.

The Carson City Mint also issued Gold Double Eagles, but ceased in 1893 when the mint closed. In 1900, the Philadelphia Mint issued 1,874,460 of the Gold Double Eagles. Meanwhile, the San Francisco Mint struck 2,459,500 of the coins.

The obverse of 1900 Gold $20 Liberty Double Eagles features the left-profile bust of Liberty. Known as the Liberty Head or Coronet design, this visual shows Liberty with a crown on her head, her hair in a bun, and 13 stars around the portrait. The date mark features at the bottom.

On the reverse side of the coins, you will find an ornate version of the heraldic eagle. Sometimes referred to as the Great Seal of the United States, this design shows a front-facing eagle supporting the US national shield with the arrows of war in one talon and the olive branch of peace in the other.

These 1900 Pre-33 Gold $20 Liberty Double Eagles are in Mint State 62 condition. Coins in this condition showcase impaired or dull mint luster. Flaws include, but are not necessarily limited to, clusters of small contact marks, several heavier marks or scuffs, and noticeable hairlines. Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase.
