The third installment of the American Eagle Series, the Platinum American Eagle was introduced by the United States Mint in 1997. The series features a static obverse and reverse design combination in the Brilliant Uncirculated release, with changing design elements on the reverse of the coin when it was introduced in the Proof version in 1997. From 1997 to 2017, a new reverse debuted each year. As of 2018, new obverse designs appear each year. Now, 1/10 oz Proof Platinum American Eagles are available to you for purchase online at Silver.com from random years.

The 1997 debut of the Platinum American Eagles featured fractional-ounce coins in the BU and Proof versions of the coin. The fractional-ounce options included 1/2 oz and 1/4 oz platinum coins alongside these 1/10 oz platinum coins. All three fractional-ounce coins were issued through 2008, with none issued in 2009.

Mintage figures varied across the board in the Proof Platinum Eagle range each year. Due to its low weight and affordable price compared to the other options, these 1/10 oz Proof Platinum Eagles typically enjoyed the highest demand in the series. The debut release in 1997 garnered sales of 36,993 1/10 oz Proof Platinum Eagles. That was the highest in the history of the series and the highest for the 1/10 oz weight. In fact, the 1/10 oz Proof Platinum Eagle was the best-selling coin among the four weights each year from 1997 to 2008, with the exception of 2007.

The obverse side of 1/10 oz Proof Platinum Eagles includes a depiction of the Statue of Liberty. Designed by John Mercanti, it features the stoic gaze of Liberty as she looks out into the distance wearing her tall, pointed crown.

On the reverse field of the 1/10 oz Proof Platinum American Eagle is an image of either American bald eagles or US national emblems. Many of the releases in this weight featured a depiction of the bald eagle, though certain coins had designs with the emblems of the branches of the federal government.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase.
