Silver Koalas debuted in 2007 at the Perth Mint. The coin has long been issued with 1 oz silver and 1 Kilo silver as the most common options. However, at various points in its history, the Silver Koala also had coin options such as 2 oz silver and 10 oz silver. The Silver Koala was just the second coin of its kind from the Perth Mint when it debuted in 2007.
The Silver Kookaburra’s 1990 release marked the start of the Perth Mint’s focus on silver coin releases with native wildlife species on the reverse of the coin. The Kookaburra features new reverse designs each time, as does the Silver Koala, Silver Emu, and Silver Wedge Tail Eagle.
Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse of 1 oz Silver Australian Koalas. Her Majesty always features on the obverse of Australian coins. Coins issued in this series from 2007 to 2019 have the Ian Rank-Broadley fifth-generation Australian portrait of the Queen with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. As of 2020, Jody Clark’s sixth-generation bust of the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem is featured on the coins.
Koalas are found on the reverse side of the 1 oz Silver Australian Koalas. Often mislabeled the koala bear, the koala is actually a species of marsupial that is native to the Australian continent. It is depicted in a new relief on the reverse each year. Coins in this series had .999 fine silver content until 2017, with the 2018 coins debuting .9999 fine silver.
These 1 oz Silver Australian Koalas are available in perfect condition. A Mint State 70 coin showcases full, original mint luster with no detracting flaws of any kind present. These coins may have additional labels such as First Strike, but that cannot be guaranteed.
