Please be aware that the black tape on the 2021 Silver Eagle Type 2 tubes is a recent addition from the US Mint. This tape has proven to break easily as a result of minor vibrations or movement. It is possible that the tube you receive may come with black tape that has come loose or has broken. Silver.com is taking the additional step of applying our own tape to each tube to ensure it remains safe during transit.
In a major first for the most important programs at the United States Mint, new design elements are coming to the reverse of the Gold Eagle and Silver Eagle bullion coins. The US Mint made the choice to redesign the reverse of both coins on the 35th-anniversary date mark of the series in 2021. As such, the coin release in 2021 includes Type 1 coins with the original obverse-reverse combinations and these Type 2 coins with the original obverse paired with a new reverse design of the American bald eagle. Today, 2021 1 oz Silver American Eagle Type 2s are available to you online at Silver.com.

The release of Silver Eagle Type 2 Coins brings the long-awaited debut of a new reverse design on the 2021 Silver Eagle. The US Mint was forced to produce 2021-dated Silver Eagles with the original design combinations of Walking Liberty and the Heraldic Eagle to start the 2021 cycle due to sustained demand for the coins and the continued COVID-19 pandemic that resulted in lower staffing figures at US Mint branch mints to facilitate a safer working environment. To complete the 2021 release of Silver Eagles, the US Mint put new dies to work coining the new reverse design.
All 2021 1 oz Silver American Eagle Type 2 Coins available here come with the usual individual and bulk packaging options for the series. The individual coins are available in plastic flips. Multiples of 20 ship in tubes and multiples of 500 ship in Monster Boxes. The boxes hold a total of 25 individual 20-coin tubes. As an additional option when buying in bulk, you can also purchase bulk quantities in our specific 2021 Silver Eagles Tube and 2021 Silver Eagles Monster Box listings.
On the obverse of 2021 Silver American Eagle Type 2s is the Walking Liberty effigy. Created by Adolph A. Weinman, the design shows Liberty walking toward the sun as it rises over a mountain on the horizon. She holds out her right hand and carries the branches of oak and laurel in her left hand. This side of the coin has a new, enhanced visual for Walking Liberty that brings her effigy closer to the original design from Weinman. Included in the field now is his artistic signature mark consisting of his initials, which are located beneath the inscription of “In God We Trust.”
The reverse side of the 2021 1 oz Silver Eagle Type 2s features the all-new American bald eagle image. Designed by Emily Damstra, the new design shows a bald eagle in flight as it swoops down toward its perch with an oak branch in its talons.
Ms. Damstra is a highly-skilled artist who works with the United States Mint Artistic Infusion program. A lifelong resident of the Great Lakes Region of the United States, Ms. Damstra has brought her love of the great outdoors to bear in coin designs for various programs at both the Royal Canadian Mint and the United States Mint. Prior to creating the new design for the Silver Eagle, she recently developed the reverse design for the 2020 Tallgrass Prairie coin for the state of Kansas in the America the Beautiful Series.
