Proof Silver American Eagles are distinguishable from BU versions of the coin based on the visuals. You can also tell the difference courtesy of the mint mark the US Mint places on its Proof Silver Eagles. Since 2001, the Proof Silver Eagles have been issued by the West Point Mint with “W” mint marks on the reverse field. Prior to that, the Proof Silver Eagles were issued by the San Francisco Mint with “S” mint marks from 1986 to 1992 and the Philadelphia Mint with “P” mint marks from 1993 to 2000.
All of the 2021-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagles available in this product listing are near-perfect specimens. PF69 coins are those that have full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Examples of acceptable flaws at this grade level include only minuscule contact marks or hairlines that must be located outside of the primary focal points of the coin. Also included Ultra-Cameo and Early Release designations.
Proof coins with an ultra-cameo label have strong, frosted design elements with deeply-mirrored, clear background fields. In addition, an Early Release label indicates the coins were received by the NGC within 30 days of the initial release date from the US Mint.
On the obverse of 2021-W 1 oz Proof Silver American Eagles is Walking Liberty. You will notice Liberty walking toward the sun as it crests a mountain on the horizon with her right hand reaching for the light of a new day.
The reverse face of the 2021-W Proof Silver Eagles comes with the heraldic eagle design. This is the final year in which the heraldic eagle will appear. It shows the bald eagle with the US national shield, the arrows of war, the olive branch of peace, and a triangular cluster of 13 stars overhead.
