The stash of coins was audited by the Government Services Administration, then packaged and auctioned off to collectors through public auctions. The US Treasury announced in the 1960s that it had found some $3 million worth of uncirculated Silver Morgan Dollars in its vaults. The GSA audited the stash of coins in the aftermath, discovering that 95% of the coins were still in uncirculated condition Morgan Dollars from the Carson City Mint. It noted the number of Morgan Dollars from various dates at the Carson City Mint and found coins from 1878, 1879, 1880, 1881, 1882, 1883, 1884, 1885, 1890, and 1891 in the stash, each with varying levels present. The coins from the 1880s were particularly notable for large volumes representing a major percentage of the original mintages from the 1880s.

All 1885-CC Silver Morgan Dollars available here come with the full GSA packaging used to prepare the coins for public auctions in the 1970s. Each coin is individually packaged inside of a hard plastic holder and available with a presentation box and a Certificate of Authenticity.

On the obverse side of 1885 Silver Morgan Dollars is an image of Liberty. Her left-profile portrait is based on Anna Willess Williams, a teacher and writer who sat through portrait sessions with George T. Morgan to help develop the Liberty bust for the Morgan Dollar.

The reverse field of 1885-CC Silver Morgan Dollars comes with a depiction of the heraldic eagle of the United States. The design was created by Morgan and shows the bald eagle in front-facing relief with the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.

1885-CC Silver Morgan Dollars had a total mintage of 238,000 coins, of which 148,300 coins were found in the US Treasury vaults in the 1960s. The 1885 date mark was both the lowest in the history of the series at the Carson City Mint and the last at the Carson City Mint until 1889.

All customer orders are packaged under high-definition cameras with great care and accuracy to ensure the correct products arrive in pristine condition. The vast majority (99+%) of customer orders ship from our primary vault in Las Vegas, Nevada.

What if my order is lost or stolen in transit?

All Orders are fully insured by Silver.com from the time of carrier pickup to the time of finaly delivery, defined as a signature or delivery confirmation from the carrier. If your order is lost, damaged or stolen in transit, please reach out to us immediately so we can work with the carrier to recover your package or, failing that, begin the claims process.

Are your products actually in stock?

Yes. We are one of the few bullion dealers in the industry who only deems products "in stock" when we have them on-hand and ready to ship immediately. In the instance of a presale item, we denote that the product is on presale and the estimated shipping date. While we make the best efforts to hit presale dates, the dates are only estimates, given we cannot control mint production issues and/or carrier dealyes.

Why are multiple prices listed?

We offer a 4% discount to "cash" paying customers - with paper check, bank wire, and bitcoin payments being defined as cash. On many products, we are also able to offer volume discounts to customers purchasing large quantities of the same item. All volume pricing is laid out in the chart on the product's description page, as well as in the cart.

When do I lock in my price?

All prices are locked in at the time of purchase. Credit/debit card, PayPal, BitCoin, Ethereum, and Ripple orders are paid at the time of checkout, while paper check and bank wire orders require a credit/debit card on file to lock in your pricing while we await your payment.
